July 23, 2017
On Sunday, July 23, we will have only one worship service (10:45 am). Sunday school classes meet at 9:45 am. There will be no early worship service. This schedule will continue until mid-August. See below for more information on Sunday school classes for children and youth, Adult Discipleship classes, and the Discover FPO class.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE CHANGE: Please note that our Sunday morning schedule will change beginning on Sunday, August 20. We will be moving back to two worship services, but they will begin at 9:15 am and 10:45 am. Much more information will be given at the Congregational meeting on August 13 (see below).
Sunday School for All Ages
We have year-round Sunday school classes for children and youth, beginning with age 2 and continuing through 12th grade. The list of children’s and youth classes can be found here. The Adult Discipleship Hour currently offers the following slate of classes:
THE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD – In this class, based on Arthur Pink’s book by the same title, an effort has been made to set forth some of the principal attributes of God’s character. (Teacher: Mitch Galishoff; Location: Chapel)
JUSTIFIED BY FAITH ALONE – In Justified by Faith Alone we will explore the doctrine of justification historically and theologically, using Dr. R.C. Sproul’s video of the same title as our guide. (Teachers: Terry Andrus & Gary Page; Location: Fellowship Hall)
EXPLORING DEUTERONOMY – Seeing God’s Faithfulness. – We will be studying the book of Deuteronomy to see how God is always working in the good times and bad for His glory and our good. (Teacher: Roger Van Nostrand; Location: The White House Living Room)
DISCOVER FPO – (Teacher: Noah Kiser; Location: Sanctuary) This group is closed for now. This 5-week class is open to anyone who wishes to learn more about First Pres or about our denomination, and it is also a requirement for anyone who would like to join our church.
We will have a congregational meeting on August 13 in the sanctuary during the Sunday School hour (9:45-10:30 am). We will discuss the upcoming changes to the worship schedule and Sunday school format, as well as give an update on our Phase 2 building project. We urge everyone to attend if at all possible!

Nomination forms are also available to be picked up on the desk in the lobby of the sanctuary. Nomination forms must be turned in to Noah or to the church office by July 31.

Men’s Saturday Morning Fellowship Group
Men, you are invited to join us every Saturday morning at 8AM in the living room of the White House for our Men’s Fellowship Group. We are currently studying the book of Ephesians for a couple more weeks, and we will then be starting a new series by Paul Tripp called, “Good And Angry”. If you are looking for a place where you can study God’s Word, pray, and fellowship with other men in our church, then please join us. For more information, contact Robert Tansill. Hope to see you there!
Summer Ice Cream Socials
Dust off your ice cream churn and make your plans to join us (rain or shine) for our two remaining ice cream socials on July 30 (that’s NEXT Sunday!) and August 27 at 6 pm at the White House! Bring blankets/chairs and ice cream or other dessert to share. (For the August ice cream social, we will have a homemade ice cream contest – with prizes!) These socials are great opportunities to invite your friends/neighbors.

Connect with FPO
Did you know that FPO is on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram? We often use these for announcements and updates about what is going on with our church family. Please like/share our page on Facebook, and follow us on Twitter (@1stPresOpelika). We plan to use our social media more and more in the future to pass along information.
Did you know that FPO has a church member directory online and an easy-to-use mobile app to go with it? If you’re not using it to easily stay connected with your church family, you should be! Members of FPO can access it with just a few simple steps. You can use it to see photos and get contact info for FPO members. Click here to find out how to get set up!
